Dear Charlie,

I tried to download the latest version, but after sometime, my computer displayed some error message, and adds that LEAP encountered a problem and will close.

I will try again tonight (Manila time), maybe this is just my server problem?

On a separate note, I am not sure if the LEAP database and the IPCC default values are already 'reconciled'? The last time I checked (2 or more months ago), the GWP for CH4, N2O, etc. were not the same.

Again, I thank you for the continued effort to make LEAP a very good and flexible tool for energy planning.

Best regards,

Mila

I have tested a download and it seems to be OK for me. It is possible that the download failed and that you have a corrupted installation file. However, if the installation program (leap2006.exe) does appear to be working correctly but LEAP itself crashes then the problem may be that LEAP did not properly install over the previous version. In this case, you may want to try cleaning out the LEAP program folder and then try the installation again. You can safely delete:

* LEAP.EXE, LEAP.CHM

* All ZIP files in the LEAP folder

* the following sub folders: _default, freedonia, _dictionary, _scripts, _backup

I suggest you do not delete the registration file register.dat

I am surprised to hear this as we used the latest GWP values from the IPCC Third Assessment report in the default database. The values we use are as follows (T CO2e/t) for 100/500 year integrations:

CO2: 1/1

CH4: 23/7

N20: 296/156

Let me know if there are newer numbers available that I may have missed.

Note also that if you are working on a very old LEAP data set that was originally created BEFORE these numbers got updated in TAR then the values used WILL be the older values (eg 21 for CH4/100). This was a conscious design decision so that results in older data sets would not changing for seemingly arbitrary reasons.

You CAN always manually edit these GWP values for any gas. To do this, go to the General: Effects screen.

I hope this helps!

Dear Charlie,

Thanks a lot, when I check for updates, it now says, "you have the latest version".

Thanks for the info on GWP, my version might not have been updated.

Best regards,

Mila

Hi,

Thanks for this. I have tried several times to download LEAP from the commend site and cannot open the program. I get an error message saying that the initialisation file is corrupt.
